Soccer Neophytes (formerly Football Neophytes) founder.

After the 2018 World Cup, Nate decided he should follow the Premier League. Given the unique opportunity to choose a team for himself not based on family allegiance or the place he grew up, he decided to watch the entire Premier League season, interview supporters of each club, and choose a team at the end.

Chris Smith

On a fateful drive down to Mexico to serve alongside of Nate at a non-profit event, he found out about the podcast and exclaimed, “Why didn’t you ask me to be your co-host?!” To which Nate replied, “Do you want to be my co-host?”

Since Nate was nearly half-way through the season, he gave Chris a rule: you can only choose a team that hasn’t yet been covered.

Chris agreed and a beautiful partnership was formed…until he chose his club…

Kyle Smith

No relation to Chris, Kyle was the first neophyte to journey through a season with Chris and Nate.

It wasn’t until years later that Kyle confessed that he only thought he was agreeing to one episode, not an entire season!

We’re glad he stuck with us.

Club: Leeds United

Tim Hoiland

Tim is the least neophyte of the neophytes. He’s the grandfather of the group, a grizzled veteran of the Premier League

Though he spurned Nate’s original request to co-host the first season, after years of arm-twisting, he reluctantly agreed and the pod is better off with him on it.
